Established:
OAO Severstal acquired Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel as part of the larger Esmark Incorporated acquisition, and the company became Severstal Wheeling Inc. in August 2008. Esmark was formed by the November 2007 merger of the former Esmark (service centers and distributor) and Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel (manufacturer). The acquisition of Esmark Incorporated also included Wheeling Corrugating Company and Northern Steel Group.

Products

Severstal Wheeling produces high quality flat-rolled products, including hot rolled band and hot rolled processed sheet, cold rolled sheet, blackplate, and hot dipped galvanized sheet.

Hot Rolled Products

Severstal Wheeling’s 80 in. Hot Strip Mill has an annual throughput of 3.4 million tons (3.1 million metric tons). The hot strip mill can roll to a minimum gauge of .060 in. through .375 in. (1.5 mm through 9.5 mm) in widths from 27 in. to 72 in. (685 mm to 1,825 mm).

Cold Rolled Products

The Severstal Wheeling's Cold Mill at Yorkville (Ohio) produces 0.66 million tons (0.60 million metric tons) of steel in thicknesses from .006 in. through .043 in. (.15 mm through 1.09 mm) with width from 27 in. to 45 in. (686 mm to 1,143 mm). The Martins Ferry line produces .65 million tons (0.60 million metric tons) of zinc-coated steel
on two coating lines.

Coated Products

Severstal Wheeling's coating capabilities include two separate galvanizing lines, each with specific width maximums (48 in. and 60 in.) and all utilizing the hot-dipped galvanizing process. Collectively, these lines are capable of producing 0.60 million tons of coated product (0.54 million metric tons). A portion of this product is sold to trade with the remainder shipped to Wheeling Corrugating Company for downstream application in the non-residential construction, agricultural and bridge building markets.
